God's word spoken for Ipswich
Leaders have been meeting together for several years on a regularly weekly basis to seek God's heart for the town, to listen and to pray. Over the years we have made notes in what has become known as 'the book' and would like to share some of these with you for your encouragement and prayer, thinking of these verse in 1 Kings 18: 41- 45.
And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.”
The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.”
So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’ ”
Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel.
Elijah knew that the rain would be coming because God had spoke it, but he stil had to get down on his knees and pray it in, while being proactive in sending his servant backwards and forwards to keep watch and let him know when the rain was imminent. In the same way, we have received these words for Ipswich, and continue to wait in faith for those that have still to come.

The history of Ipswich in Prayer
Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given', 1 Chronicles 16:12 Many individuals, groups and churches have been praying collectively under the Ipswich in Prayer (IIP) banner since October 2000. We have seen many prayers answered and great encouragements as well as challenges. Some may remember the early days of our corporate story; others will have arrived in Ipswich more recently. Our first event, an Evening of Prayer was held in December 2000; we have gathered together many times since, as well as connecting by email, prayer walking, holding prayer schools and weekends of prayer. We have taken a full part in national weeks of prayer and the Global Day of Prayer, as well as connecting with other prayer networks across England. We believe in a great and a good God who loves and longs to bless our town. "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Over time, we will add more of our history and entries from the IIP journals, including some of the prophetic words we have received from God over the last 16 years. The Israelites would look back, remember and give thanks for the way God had led them, and it is good for us to do that too. It's been quite a journey! |
From the IIP journal: Prayer for the nation
The entry in the IIP journal of 2005 seemed very significant on rediscovering it in July 2016 - significant in terms of where we stand as a nation today, 11 years later, but also in terms of projects that began to form around this time such as Town Pastors and Talitha Koum. Read more about prayer for our nation in 2005. From the IIP journal: Powersurge.
Weds June 20th 2001: "initial meeting with a local youth worker and a local pastor re starting a youth prayer initiative in Ipswich". Weds June 28th 2006: " last Powersurge last night, which is very sad, but everything has a season and sadly, due to no new leadership, this has to come to an end". Read more about Powersurge here. Do you have any memories of Powersurge to share? We'd love to hear from you |
